Rosalie Jennifer Desirée

Rosalie Brouwer is a contemporary artist based in the Netherlands. She is recognized for her style in which she interweaves realism and abstraction.

Rosalie has developed an unique mixed media technique to create these artworks on reclaimed wooden surfaces.

At a very young age Rosalie started creating art. Every sheet of paper laying near her was quickly filled with her fantasies and her father always needed to do the groceries with a shopping list filled with doodles.

At the age of 13 Rosalie developed an interest in drawing the human face. She started analyzing and sketching faces to learn how to capture someone’s spirit and soul. She came to understand the powers of observation and the values of light and dark tones to create lifelike artworks.

8 years later Rosalie moved to the other side of her country to gain new inspiration and take a step into depth. Rosalie’s creative pursuits have been influenced by her experiences of not being bound to a specific place, her love for nature and her admiration for people being brave enough to follow their dreams.

“All of us have a story to tell, a personal narrative that captures the essence of who we are and what we’ve lived through. We all have scars like reclaimed wood does. It’s what makes us unique.”

With her art Rosalie wants to connect with people and inspire them to reflection. What we see in others reveals sacred information about who we are ourselves.

“We all have scars like reclaimed wood does. It’s what makes us unique.”

“Art that
grabs
your attention
and draws
you into it.”

How it started

It started when I was little. Every sheet of paper laying near me was quickly filled with my fantasies. Even my father had to do the groceries with a shopping list full doodles and in high school my books were wrapped in white wrapping paper so I could draw on it.

Bringing portraits to life

At the age of 13 drawing faces fascinated me the most. Hours and hours I’ve spent behind my drawing table to study the human face with as goal: capturing the authenticity of the human being. Lots of sketches followed and I developed my technical skills.

Now I know how to use light and dark tones to create lifelike artworks. In every work of art there is a lot of attention to detail to make the portrait come to life.

Illustrating digital

Besides being a traditional artist I’m a digital artist as well. In Adobe Illustrator I bring my fantasies to life. During my study Communication at the Inholland university of Applied Sciences in Rotterdam I learned about visual communication and how to use it to reinforce communication messages.
