Rosalie Jennifer Desirée

Rosalie Jennifer Desirée (RJD) is a Dutch artist who weaves abstraction with realism on recycled wooden surfaces. Her work is characterized by refined layers of paint and pencil, rich in texture, where stories and emotions come together.

Art has been an integral part of Rosalie’s life from a young age. At 13 she became fascinated with drawing faces. Through observation and sketching she learned to capture emotions and used contrasts to create expression and depth in her compositions.

Rosalie studied Communication at Inholland University of Applied Sciences in Rotterdam due to her interest in human behavior and visual communication. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 2021 and shortly after moved to Limburg to seek new inspiration and fully dedicate herself to her art.

Here, Rosalie discovered a unique way to integrate nature into her work: by painting and drawing on wood. This material, with its unique patterns, cracks, and knots, reflects the imperfections and scars that make us all human.

“Everyone has a story – a story that makes you unique. I invite you to momentarily step into the story of the person in the artwork, while embracing your own story at the same time. Wood is alive, just like stories are. The abstract backgrounds symbolize the canvas of life, full of colors, with ups and downs. They invite you to celebrate life.”

Through her art, Rosalie aims to inspire reflection and connection. She invites viewers to slow down, be present in the moment, and in doing so, embrace their own story.

"We all have scars like reclaimed wood does. It’s what makes us unique."
