The past two days, my brushes and I were at the Modestraat, een bruisende plek vol inspirerende initiatieven in Amsterdam-Noord.
The line in the artwork symbolizes the collaboration towards a vibrant community. The woman behind the sewing machine weaves the stories of Modestraat with her thread, and the man on the right reads the story. The timeline offers an immersive overview of the rich history of Amsterdam-Noord.
Thanks to Gadir Mhanna and Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab Amsterdam
for this wonderful commission and thanks to Jet Meijerthe director of Modestraat, for the wonderful contact.
It was two full painting days in a lively spot. Many curious passersby stopped to chat and shared how much they loved the artwork. Children who came to watch beamed when I handed them my brush and encouraged them to color in a section of the wall. A group of friends on the bench behind me played Brazilian music. And the hairdresser’s cat, which regularly lay down on my painter’s cloth.
I am grateful to be able to create art on so many different canvases as an artist, connecting people along the way.
Visitors and residents of Buikslotermeerplein, come by Modestraat and step inside. Inspiration, creativity, and coziness guaranteed.
